Join our TEA ’N CHAT with Textile Artist Nikki Parmenter, who will talk about her work, explaining some of the techniques she uses and also the contextual influences which determine the imagery used in each piece.
Nikki taught art for 30 years to secondary school children, and having left full time work in 2016, has been providing talks, demonstrations, summer schools, workshops to schools, groups and societies. She is a member of various art and textile groups.
Nikki exhibits her work widely and has written a number of articles for both magazines and online sites. She is based in Cheshire and specialises in mixed media textile pieces, taking inspiration from a variety of sources and particularly interested in the way societies created a series of visual symbols to represent the things which were important to them. She investigates myths, legends, stories and beliefs. She is also inspired by art, architecture and artefacts.

TasteXtiles Event – A workshop with Nicola Perren
Tuesday 23rd April – Start time 7.00pm
FREE EVENT HELD ON ZOOM
This event is held on Zoom so you need to register to get the zoom details to join us 🙂
Join our TasteXtiles event with Textile Artist and Lecturer Nicola Perren, who will take you through a fun drawing/mark making workshop, which can be used in the classroom.
Thinking about Drawing for Textiles can be enjoyable but also an unnerving experience. In this quick workshop, we will use collage and mark making to create small abstract drawings suitable for further translation into textiles.
If you wish to take part on the night, a list of materials to collate will be included in the booking confirmation email. Alternatively you can watch the demo and try later. The session will also be recorded for future reference.
Nicola is a freelance designer, maker and tutor with a studio based in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire. Having spent over 20 years as a f/t senior lecturer in Textiles at the University of Huddersfield, their experience teaching weave, drawing for textiles, craft and design has led into a practice that springs from drawing into textiles.
Nicola has a BA [Hons] in Textile Design and an MA in Contemporary Art, this mix of approaches to practice then led onto a PhD [Activating the Amateur in a Crafts Practice] which celebrates making and creativity in non-formal learning environments.
