JON DUNN-BALLAM
Jon is a knitter, crocheter, spinner, hand-dyer and sewist and set up Easyknits.co.uk, a small indie yarn dyers, originally based in South East London, UK, in 2009. He began knitting at the age of 7, taught by his grandma, knitting throughout most of his youth, pausing to complete his studies in Graphic Design and after graduating moved to London.
Jon joined a knitting group that met every week in a different pub in the city, making friends and getting back into his knitting in a big way. After discovering a love for knitting socks, he marvelled at how, at the time, there was so little choice in bright and fun colourways in luxury knitting yarns, and so began tinkering and experimenting with dyeing his own, within a few months easyknits.co.uk was born.
In the past 12 years easyknits,co.uk has become known for it’s high quality, luxurious yarn bases dyed in an array of wild and wonderful colours across the spectrum, steadily growing and developing and changing. More recently Jon re-opened it’s studio doors from a new location in the Canary Islands, on the beautiful tropical island of Lanzarote and his socks and colourful dyed cars are being sold around the world:)

Ros Studd
Rosalind Studd & Elahe Alavi started up Repair What You Wear in response to austerity and climate change, a recognition of the need that small things will make a difference to individuals and society. Their website includes classroom activities and resources: https://repairwhatyouwear.com/education/
Clothes mending can save money and reduce landfill at a time that both are essential, but when mending skills have all but disappeared. Set up and funded by a former retail buyer and a graphic designer, the teaching is clear and accessible, designed to empower when we can all feel helpless in the face of change.
Ros teaches fashion textiles in Scotland, starting out as a retail buyer and product developer for the big fashion names. Textiles are her thing and she loves manufacturing, just not the current levels of pollution and waste. The project came about when realising how much money she saved by mending her own children’s clothes, but others did not have the skills to make this choice. The website is all about proper teaching and what the student can achieve for themselves.
